Since Josh was 14, he has been involved in some form of racing, whether it be go-karts, street stocks, IMCA stock cars, or sprint cars. He's even drag raced a snowmobile before. The sprint car side started late in the season of 1998 with a 10 year old Trostle chassis and a "garage built" engine. Neither were state of the art but good enough for a newcomer to sprint cars. His second time out was at what is now known as the Front Row Challenge in Oskaloosa but bad luck would have him getting upside down. The second year (1999) was more prosperous for Josh as he was named 360 Rookie of the Year at the Knoxville Raceway by finishing 21st in points. He, also, raced at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines and finished 2nd in the points there. Each of his years behind the wheel of a sprint car progressively got better and in 2002, our team decided it was the year of the birds. With an Ostich Racing Engines powerplant under the hood and an Eagle Chassis, Josh won his first A Feature at Knoxville and then followed it up by winning the Brodix Tournament of Champions and being named 410 Nationals Rookie of the Year. At the banquet, he was honored with 4th in the season points, named Sportsman of the Year, received the Lyle Boyd Hard Charger Award, and was the Junior Fan Club 360 Driver of the Year. The years following 2002 have been filled with driving for other owners, being car owners for Eric VanderPloeg, and having our truck/trailer and racecar stolen, but consistently finishing in the top 5 in points. In 2007, Josh finally reached his goal by winning the 360 Knoxville Championship. 2008 has been an up and down year for him, which he started by driving for someone else and deciding the weekend before the 360 Nationals that it was time to move on from that ride. With the help of Steve Wares and Vern Harrison, Josh was able to end his Knoxville season 3rd in driver points, only 35 points out of 2nd. 2009 had a slow start, with only a few races to run for Steve Wares and Randy Plath in the Sprint Invaders. July would things turned around, first by running one week in the 7K Bruce Williams car in the 410 class and then getting the opportunity to drive the 81 Marty Johnson 410 car weekly through the Knoxville Nationals. 2010 will have Josh teaming up with Steve Wares and Vern Harrison in the #10 car.
